I cannot imagine anyone would enjoy living in a cage.

Think about it for a second. Wouldn’t it be awful to be confined to the same space all the time? Never being able to leave. Being limited to what could fit in the cage with you. Seeing and doing the same things day in and day out. Like prison I suppose. If you’re reading this there’s a good chance you aren’t in a physical cage. BUT…are you in a cage?

If you never step outside of your comfort zone in life, then you are, in fact, in a cage. It is not a physical cage in terms of limiting how far you can walk or drive. But it is a self-limiting cage. It keeps you from trying things that aren’t comfortable. Which means that it keeps you from doing new things in your life. It is a cage that exists between your ears that limits the entire scope of your life.

A comfort zone is a cage that exists between your ears that limits the entire scope of your life.

For many years I know I was trapped in this cage of my own creation. I missed many things in life. How about you? What has the limitations of your comfort zone cost you in terms of life experiences and opportunities? This doesn’t have to be the case. It is not that difficult to break out of the comfort zone cage. All you have to do is take a small step outside of the comfort zone. One Small step…there’s no doubt that you can do this. If you look back at your life, you can see moments in time when you clearly stepped outside of the comfort zone and it was okay.

Think about all the things you’ve learned to do in your life. Everyone of these at one time lay outside of your comfort zone.

Think about all the things you’ve learned to do in your life. Everyone of these at one time lay outside of your comfort zone. The cool thing is that one little step outside, makes you feel good. It makes you feel strong. It boosts your self-esteem. Just one little step! You are a unique and special person. You have gifts you don’t even know about yet because you may not have left the comfort zone to experience them. When I was younger, I had an immense fear of public speaking. I am shy by nature anyway and it took me years to speak up in a group of people I knew…but to speak in front of a group on purpose, well that was a fate worse than death to me. There came a time however when I felt like it would help my career pursuits, so I tried it. It was terrifying. I’ll never forget how scared I was. But I did it…and I didn’t die! I was awful, but that didn’t matter. The victory was just doing it. So I did it again and again and again. For a year or two, I was still terrified, but I kept doing it and I kept getting more confident. Eventually, I discovered, that I actually was blessed with an ability to speak in front of groups. But I never would have discovered this had I not been willing to step outside of the comfort zone. What gifts might you be hiding in your comfort zone cage?

This lesson has served me well ever since. This one victory was proof that I could expand my comfort zone just by stepping out of it regularly….and you can to! Don’t allow all that you are blessed to be stay hidden inside of the cage of your comfort zone. There is so much of life waiting for you. Step out and watch your self grow. You’ll be amazed by what you are truly capable of!
