I have to be honest in the fact that I do not like adversity or struggle, but I love what it shows me about myself, how it tests my faith, and how I grow through it and from it.
Character is ultimately tested during adversity and struggle, and hopefully it is deepened. Here are a few random quotes for you to ponder relative to Character:
“Adversity is a crossroads which makes a person choose one of two paths: character or compromise. Every time leaders choose character, they become stronger, even if that choice brings negative consequences.”-John Maxwell

“Character is not as much preference as it is conviction. Your character is who you really are; your reputation is who people think you are….live to build your character and integrity.” -Dr. Dave Martin
“Men of genius are admired, men of wealth are envied, men of power are feared; but only men of character are trusted.”-Alfred Adler
“Character is a victory, not a gift.”-Anonymous
“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved.” -Helen Keller
“Of all the properties which belong to honorable men, not one is so highly prized as that of character.” -Henry Clay
