Do the people you are around inspire you to be your best?
I just returned from a three day leadership retreat and brainstorming session with the Lifeplus Top Team. This is a group of people who have all reached the top level of recognition with the company, and are in general among the top producers (Although production alone is not the only factor for inclusion). It is an honor to be a part of this group because I have tremendous respect and admiration for each member of this team.
To a person they all care deeply about helping people, the long term potential of the company, and are intensely committed. The primary focus of this group is to help others in Lifeplus to reach a higher level in life. Anyway, this post isn’t about the Top Team’s mission or purpose or what they work on, as that is not my place to reveal. This message is about how amazing it is to be around this level of people for an extended amount of time.
It was a humbling experience for me and also a wonderful mirror. These are people who are making it happen in life in a big way. They are all different. They come from different backgrounds and have different levels of gifts and talent. They embody the idea that it is not about where you come from or what particular set of gifts you possess but all about what you are committed to doing and what you are committed to becoming. They have all faced obstacles, adversities, and fears in their development and their business, and they have all overcome through persistence and courage.
They inspire me to be my best. They make me take a hard look in the mirror and ask myself where I am settling for less than I can be, and where am I settling for doing less than I can do. Success is an inhibitor to future success because complacency comes from comfort, and comfort comes from success. I never want to be “comfortable”…I want to be growing and striving and expanding the gifts God gave me.
I am so thankful I had this experience. It is important to spend time with those who are on the path that you are and who are at the same level or above. If you are not currently doing this, then I suggest you start right now. Who is on your path, and is ahead of you? They can teach and inspire you. Who is on your path and is running beside you? You can encourage each other and reflect back on each other.
These are the best mirrors in life. The kind that make you look at your self and inspire you to become what you CAN become. We are all capable of much more than we know.
