What happens when you invest your efforts in work you don’t enjoy?

The answer unfortunately is not much!

In reviewing various articles, I have seen anywhere from 55% up to 80% of people do not enjoy their work. This tells me a few things. One, its hard to quantify how many…probably because a lot of people are afraid of the repercussions of being honest. Two, regardless of the actual number…its a big number! Three, these people are not living a high quality of life…how could you be when you spend a large amount of your life doing something you don’t enjoy? Four, these people have no prayer of achieving at a high level.

You might think I am just giving an opinion here but I am not…

I have worked with and interacted with tens of thousands of people in the past 30 years of being in business. I have seen this over and over.

The key thing here is if we are employed in work we don’t enjoy then we are absolutely not engaging our gifts, passions and affinities. Now I am a realist….I know that regardless of what you are doing, even if you are doing something you love. there are still aspects you don’t love. I am talking about the general topic  or endeavor being in your sweet spot.

You see when you are working in your sweet spot, you are working in the place you are supposed to be. You are working in your strengths area. You can multiply strengths and you enjoy working in your strengths so you will work harder and more diligently and with a positive attitude. And what does this translate in to? Success. Plain and simple.

“A man’s gifts will make room for him, And bring him before great men” Proverbs 18:16

Life is shorter than you think and goes by way too fast. If you don’t enjoy what you do, figure out how to do it utilizing your strengths and gifts, or do something else.  Don’t worry about taking a step back if you have to, you will excel when you work in an area you enjoy, so even if you take a step back, you’ll end up going a lot farther! Have faith in the proverb, its there to teach you.
