The People Environment in your Workplace is as important as any other thing.

Some people scoff at this notion. They will tell you that the money and the opportunity for advancement trumps everything else. Those people are naive at best…at worst? You can fill in the blank. You spend about 25% of your life in income producing time (work)…and I higher percentage of your adult life. If you are surrounded by people who are negative or unsupportive…what kind of long term impact might that have on you? Studies have shown that people are more likely to leave a job because of the leadership or the people around them than for money. Most surveys show money as being lower than fifth in the reasons someone leaves a position. This is one of the prime benefits of a referral marketing business. Obviously, if you have grown a referral marketing business to a full time venture (which anyone can do) then you now completely control who you spend time around anyway…but since most are part-time, the positive community is an incredible quality of life enhancement. Just being around the types of people who are attracted to referral marketing makes you feel good and provides encouragement for your job and your other endeavors. Here’s a little snippet from my book The Process (Die Methode) on the topic:

“The third need is something that all human beings require for a positive life experience. Human beings are relational creatures.  We enjoy being around other people, especially people that add value to us or make us feel good. The people who participate in referral marketing tend to be positive, motivated, forward thinking people who genuinely care about others and desire to make a difference. In essence they are a community of encouraging and positive people who enjoy helping people (hmmm, I wonder if your work environment is like this…). The very core concept of referral marketing is to help others first, knowing that if you help enough people get what they need in life, you will get what you need.”
