Congratulations to Germany on their World Cup Victory.
Growing up in the United States, I played the more classic American sports like basketball and baseball, and didn’t spend much time around a soccer (Football to the rest of the world) field. It’s only been the last ten years or so, that I have developed a deep appreciation for the sport.
As such, I don’t know all the ins and outs of the game, but that is hardly necessary to understand that it is a pure team sport. While a great player can certainly have an impact in the sport, it is clear that the better overall team will win almost every time.
Germany’s run to the Wolrd Cup Championship is evidence. At every turn they operated as a team. That they have many talented players is clear, yet that talent would not have produced the success they experienced were it not for each player’s understanding that they have a role to play in making the team the best it can be.
Time and time again during the tournament, Germany’s players made the right pass or stayed in the right position on defense, sacrificing opportunities for personal glory, in pursuit of the ultimate team victory.
Argentina is also a talented team and boasts the world’s best player (Messi), yet at the end, he held an award as the best player which is hollow in comparison to Germany’s trophy as the world’s best team.
They are NO great accomplishments in life by someone acting alone. There is always a team of people behind the man or woman who is acknowledged, without whom, the accomplishment would never be won.
Hats off to Germany, and thanks for the example too.
