“There is an eagle in me that wants to soar and a hippopotamus in me that wants to wallow in the mud.”-Carl Sandberg

How do you know who is winning?

Well that’s pretty easy actually. Look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are striving to live the life you want or if you are settling for something less and making excuses to justify it.

Does that seem harsh? It probably does…if your hippo is winning! If your eagle is winning, it will only be taken as truth. Life is too short to be the hippo. No one has any idea how old they are. Your numerical age is completely irrelevant. You could be 60 and live another 50 years…in my book that makes you pretty young in life. Especially when you consider that you can have 90% of the physical capacity you have in your 30s in your 90s if you take care of your body.

Age is just a number. Attitude and life approach determine more whether someone is “old” or not. Numbers don’t make old. Hippos make old.

So how do you make sure your eagle is winning?

Easy. Here’s three quick things:

1. Decide what you want out of life and begin RIGHT NOW to take some kind of step towards it, and then take a step every day from now on. DO NOT STOP.

2. Feed your mind with the eagle food. Positive, inspiring, mind-expanding eagle food. Not negative hippo food. This includes hanging around with other eagles. If you have hippos in your life….they have got to go elsewhere to wallow.

3. Don’t pet the hippo when it comes around. You are human. Your hippo will never be gone for good. When you are having a hippo moment. Recognize it for what it is…the eagle is taking a short break. Don’t pet the hippo. Don’t feed the hippo. Don’t reward the hippo in any way. Go look for your eagle!
