Everyday I wake up feeling differently

Some days I wake up and I feel energized, optimistic, creative, and generally like I could do anything and some days I wake up feeling just plain yucky. It doesn’t matter how I feel when I go to bed. When I wake up it’s a new day and I open my eyes and get to experience whatever state of being I wake up in.

I’m just a regular guy with all the stuff that come with being a human being. Stuff I like about myself and stuff I don’t. Situations around me I like and others I would like to change. You know what I mean. But in general, I think I have a pretty amazing life. I’m in excellent health, married to a fantastic woman who loves me, have two great children, have lots of abundance in my life in general, and am able to pursue my passions in my work, using my gifts, on my own terms, in my bare feet most days.

But still, despite all of my blessings, I have days I wake up negative and down. And I bet it happens to you too. In my case, it’s a bit exacerbated genetically in that I am wired to have specific periods of time where I feel less than vibrant. So what is the point of this?

deciding not to participate in life on days when you feel yucky is not really an option

Well, since deciding not to participate in life on days when you feel yucky is not really an option, it’s important to have a strategy for getting back to yourself, or getting what I called “centered.” I have a routine that I call my “Daily Dozen” that I use to center myself each day. Regardless of how I wake up in the morning, by the time I am through the majority of the dozen, I am centered. In other words, I am in a good place with a good attitude and ready to do life that day in the right way (for me).

The Daily Dozen is comprised of lots of things that include exercise, reading, spiritual time, nutrition, etc. All of these things influence our mental stance. I’m not going to go into them all here. Instead, I’m just going to give you the greatest of attitude secret weapons.

Giving to another is the game-changer

The ultimate way, to go from whatever you are feeling, to feeling really good, is to give of yourself to others. Giving to another is the game-changer. It is virtually impossible to continue to feel bad when you make someone else feel good. Even something as small as a smile and a kind word to someone that brightens their day shines it’s light back on you.

I am fortunate in that my work centers completely around serving others so just getting busy with my daily activities will lead me to serving and giving of myself. But I am still purposeful in looking for opportunities throughout my day to give a little something to those I interact with, because it just feels so good to do it. So help yourself to get centered in the day by serving someone else and bettering their day.
