I remember it like it was yesterday. Even though it was almost 28 years ago. That stomach in my throat feeling as I considered picking up the phone to make my first prospecting calls.

Sweat beading up on my forehead. Hands shaking. Sitting at my little tiny desk in the corner of our little tiny dining room, in our tiny apartment in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Picking up the phone and then putting it back down because….Oh, I know, I need a glass of water! And then I better go to the bathroom, and then I better review my notes again, and then….

Not only did I have no idea what I was doing, I was terrified of what people might say to me. Would they ask me questions I couldn’t answer? Would they criticize me? Would they laugh at me? Scary stuff for an introvert with low self-esteem.

I had a script that had been provided for me…there was just one HUGE problem…the words on this paper were nothing like what I would actually say in any universe in any conversation!

This was back when Network marketing was still really small as an industry and no one had any idea what it was, and if they did, their ideas weren’t good ones!!

But you know what?

I Picked up the Phone and Made a Call.

And then I made another one. And another one. And another one. And another one. And…

You see, I wanted freedom more than I wanted to avoid the uncomfortable feeling of doing something I had never done before. I’d love to tell you that I understood that I would get better and more comfortable fast through taking action. But I wasn’t thinking about it that way.

I’d love to tell you that I recognized that this would be no different than everything else I had learned to do in my life, that the more I would do the better I would get. But I did not have that recognition.

I Forgot that We go Through a Learning Curve in Everything we Do.

I simply looked at it like I truly didn’t have a choice. Much later, I knew all theses things. But not then. I forgot that we go through a learning curve in everything we do. That before we are good at anything, we have to go through the phases of being a beginner, then being a little better, then being adequate, then being reasonably good, then being good, then being really good, then being awesome, then being masterful…

And this my friends, is the BIG take-away. You will get exceptionally good at every aspect of your business if you simply stay consistent and show up and do it every day. You have so many more opportunities and pathways to succeed today. Just do the work and you will become a master and succeed. It is so true that the only people who fail or the ones that quit.

Here is a video from a recent Fan Page Live that will give you a great nugget you can remember as you are going through the growing process:
