It’s been my experience in my personal life and in coaching and mentoring others, that there is a huge tendency to build monuments to our mistakes and failures.

Do you know what I mean? We replay stuff over and over in our head that went wrong. We re-experience the negative event in our mind…over time making it worse and worse. Sort of like a fish story. Having been a fisherman for most of my life and knowing lots of other ones, I know that the fish that got away gets bigger and bigger as the years go on!

In building your business, this re-visiting of failures can have a tiny bit of value, if you aren’t emotional about it. In other words, if  YOU are not the failure, merely the one who took an action that did not have the desired outcome, then you can look at the action for the educational value and use this for doing better the next time. IF indeed, there was something you could have done differently that would have made a difference.

For example, in prospecting and recruiting, you can do everything right. You can be nice, you can speak to the need, you can make them comfortable to learn, and they still say No….did you fail? No. But you might think of it this way. So where am I going with this? Well, I believe we can agree on the previous, so let’s look at the thing to do about it.

Celebrate Victories and Successes Along the Way.

Everyone gets a little jazzed when they sponsor a new business partner or a new customer. I probably don’t have to suggest that one. But what about hitting your action goals for the day? Did you ever consider that a success?  If not, then it’s time to start giving your self some credit where it matters.

The most important thing you can do in Your business is make contacts. Because the law of numbers is such that the more contacts you make the more people you will have who become part of your business. So setting and reaching a contact goal daily is one of the most important things you can do…and you can absolutely control this!

This small daily victory is the key to a big success down the road. But if you don’t consider it a success you will then base your success on the outcomes that are always dictated by others…and that will more often than not, disappoint you.

Everywhere you can, point out to yourself the actions you take. These are choices you made to be proactive. To be a doer. To make something happen. This is a good thing. Give yourself some credit. This video will give you some more ideas of what I am talking about.
