I would be willing to bet that there are times when you feel a bit overwhelmed.
Am I right? Here you are managing all the things that go with a busy and well-lived life. You have a full time endeavor of some sort, whether you work a job, own a business, or…the toughest and most demanding…are at home running a household and raising children. In addition, you have community involvement, and all the activities that go with a family life or the other side, a busy social life. Oh, and you are building your dream on the side.
And that’s just the basic stuff and has nothing to do with all that comes at you on a daily and weekly basis. I know how this feels, and I don’t like it any more than you do! So years ago I developed some strategies to eliminate “overwhelm” because it is a very disempowering place to be. It freezes you.
Consider a Lion Tamer For a Second
When’s the last time someone asked you to consider a lion tamer? Probably been awhile. Anyway, a lion tamer keeps the “King of the Jungle” at bay using primarily a stool. How is that possible? Because the four legs of the stool represent four separate threats to the Lion, and this is apparently too many threats for the Lion brain to handle. So it freezes. It’s not certain what to do, so it doesn’t do anything. It is overwhelmed.
That is you and me. We are the lion. We have to learn to weed out all the stuff that doesn’t matter so that we can focus on the few things that do. This is how you eliminate overwhelm.
Here are Two Strategies That Help You Keep the Focus
The first one is to break your life into the top three priorities. For me it’s pretty clear, Health, Family, Business. Since we are focused here on keeping your focus on building your dream, aka your network marketing business, now you have another step. Look at your network marketing business from the same perspective. What are the top three priorities in regards to your time? For example, unless you are already massively successful, the number one thing you do daily for your business is prospect/make contacts. If you do nothing else, you have to do this. It is the life of your work. Follow up would be another of the priorities of course. The point here is to boil it down to your top three priorities in the work that will build your business. If you need a little help with it send me a message.
Say NO
This is the result of doing the first step. Once you are clear on what really matters, then it is easy to say no to the things that don’t fit. This doesn’t mean you will never have any fun the rest of your life! It simply helps you to avoid overwhelm when there is a lot going on. In fact, when you operate this way, you will feel way more in control most of the time and it will eventually give you more ability to be spontaneous in your life because you will be operating efficiently pertaining to what is of value to you. When I launched my training platform to help everyday people succeed in the network marketing industry, I had to say no to some things in order to do what matters. I turned away life coaching clients, I turned away Corporate Leadership Training opportunities. There are things you will have to say no to that you are currently saying yes to. Because those things will keep you from ever being able to truly say yes to the life you want. These two simple steps will really help.
