Have You Ever Encountered a Mean Person While Building Your Business?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess the answer is yes! All businesses are people businesses essentially. In building your home business you will find mean people in various places. You will have some prospects that are mean…you might have some people in your team that will be mean (no matter how thoroughly you follow my teaching of “nice, honest, and respectful”), and unfortunately you might encounter mean people above you in the line of sponsorship.

I believe, and it’s been my experience, that there are way more nice people in the world than mean people…but there appears to be enough mean people to be guaranteed that they can show up anywhere!

I’ve had plenty of people be mean to me over the years…some were mean to my face…but more have been mean behind my back…which is pretty cowardly if you ask me. So I speak from experience when I share this.

So Why ARE Some People So Mean?

In general, my take is that they don’t know how to deal with stuff in a mature way, so they resort to their inner 5 year old! So what is the “stuff?” My perspective is that they are either bitter, jealous, scared, or insecure. Obviously I could dive deeper into these four things, and I do a bit on the video, but what’s the point? It’s more important to know the best way to keep these people from affecting you.

There meanness can have a very detrimental effect on your energy and emotions. Take it from me…I am a highly sensitive person. When people are mean to me it hurts. If it affects you too, then you need to know that it hurts your ability to work if you don’t know how to deal with it because….

Building Your Business requires Emotional Energy

Anything that hurts your emotional energy hurts you in the work. So here are a few of the things that I have used to help navigate this issue.

  1. Pray for Them-it makes you feel better to pray for someone…and Lord knows these people need it!
  2. Avoid Them-if someone is mean to you, why would you subject yourself to them on purpose? If you are mean to me I can promise you that it will be hard to get another opportunity…I value my emotional energy too much and I take responsibility to be a light for others very seriously.
  3. Be Nice-if I have no choice but to be in their space, I kill them with kindness. After a while, they don’t get any of their sick joy from being mean to me so they leave me alone (of course they will likely still do whatever they do behind your back, but so what? it only makes them look small).
  4. Succeed-this is my favorite one…nothing shuts up and shuts out a mean person like you succeeding. I personally used the meanness I experienced in my early days as fuel…and I still do. So can you.

I hope you got some value from this. I share quite a bit more about this topic in the video that will be helpful for you.
