Do You Have Days Where You Just Don’t Feel Like Going to Work?

Okay, so that was a rhetorical question. Of course you do. It doesn’t matter who you are or how much you love what you do, there are going to be days when you don’t want to do it.

Some days you are tired. Some days there are other things on your mind that are dampening your enthusiasm. Some times there are lots of challenges going on and you don’t really want to face them. There are lots of reasons this could be happening, many of which have you feeling negatively towards the day.

If you are like me, you have the added issue of “wiring.” There are more mornings where I wake up and I feel like there is a cloud over my head, than days where I wake up and feel like sunshine. This is simply my chemical make-up.

I am pre-disposed to have anxiety and some depression. My world can be awesome and still I feel awful.

Having said this, just like YOU show up whether you are feeling it or not, so do I.

We Have a Responsibility to Show Up the Right Way

It’s my perspective that we are going to impact practically everyone we interact with in life in some way. Two of the most contagious things are personal energy and attitude. If we show up with a negative attitude because we aren’t “feeling it” or we would rather be somewhere else, we are going to spread that negative energy. It will affect everyone in some way, and then as a result affect the people THEY touch.

This is especially important if you are in leadership or if you engage the public.

When I share with people that I deal with anxiety and depression, they have a hard time believing it, because I don’t show up this way. I take to heart my responsibility and invest a substantial amount of time to get centered every day so that I can show up consistently in a positive, optimistic way. The things I do, anyone can do. By the way, I don’t use medication, because I believe that like all things we have naturally, there is a purpose for this in my makeup, and mine isn’t as severe as others may have. It keeps me striving. It keeps me trying to improve. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it to me. Whatever your choice is I respect. I just tell you this so you will understand how impactful what I am about to share can be.

In the video below, I talk about a question that I use to frame the day. In fact, I use several of them (all of them I share in my book 3 Circles Living), but the one I speak of in the video, if you really take it to heart can help a lot.

Here are the Other Keys to Increasing Optimism Daily….

So this is my morning routine….you can borrow all of it if you’d like. I have been doing this for 30 years and it has been a major contributor to many of the blessings I get to experience, in addition to centering me so I show up for the people I serve in my work and those I touch in the community.

Once I get out of bed, I take some specific nutrients, take care of the dogs (puppy kisses are a great way to put a smile on your face), then I spend 20 minutes in quiet spiritual time whcih includes gratitude reflection. Then I nourish my body with a special blend of foundational nutrients and fitness nutrients. Then I go to the gym. On the way I listen to something uplifting. At the gym, I work hard doing my resistance training, then read 30-40 minutes while I do my aerobic work. Then I head home, replenish my body with nutrients including some specifically focused on brain and anxiety, and finish planning and journaling for the day (including the questions I remind myself of).

At that point I am energized, centered, and ready to serve and focus on others (which is the ultimate way to get over yourself!). I doesn’t matter how I wake up. By the time I start working I am in the head space I need to be. I hope this gave you some ideas that can help you show up optimistic and as your best self.

Remember, we are blessed that we “GET TO” show up. Not everyone does…

P.S. I truly believe with all of my being that if everyone lived from the 3 Circles Living platform the world would be a much better place. Imagine what it would be like if everyone was healthy, joyful, operating as their best self, making a contribution, and feeling fulfilled…that would be pretty cool wouldn’t it? If you haven’t ordered your copy yet, I encourage you to. I know it will make a difference.
