If You Ever Struggle With Emotional Swings This Will Definitely Help…

“It is one of nature’s tricks, little understood, that each day I awaken with moods that have changed from yesterday. Yesterday’s joy will become today’s sadness; yet today’s sadness will grow into tomorrow’s joy. Inside me is a wheel, constantly turning from sadness to joy, from exultation to depression, from happiness to melancholy. Like the flowers, today’s full bloom of joy will fade and wither into despondency, yet I will remember that as today’s dead flower carries the seed of tomorrow’s bloom so, too, does today’s sadness carry the seed of tomorrow’s joy.”-Og Mandino

I Have Always Been Subject to Emotional Swings.

Some days I wake up with soaring emotional energy and a complete “glass is full” perspective on life. Other days I wake up and I am completely the opposite. Those of you who know me personally might have a hard time believing this because I tend to project a positive perspective and I smile frequently.

I started this article with a passage from Og Mandino’s book “The Greatest Salesman” because it is so appropriate. Reading this book, starting 31 years ago, was helpful for me. It took me out of “what’s wrong with me” thinking and put me into a place of understanding. This is just how I am wired…and I am not alone. Most everyone has similar wiring. Its highly unlikely for anyone to be emotionally ON all the time.

So managing emotions is the key. Here is what I do every day to re-center myself:

  1. Quiet time of prayer and reading the bible

  2. Personal development time of reading and journaling

  3. Exercise

  4. Eating good food (processed foods poison your body and mind)

  5. Smile-Its hard to stay down when you are smiling…smiling sends positive vibes to your brain

6. Consider my blessings and be thankful

  1. Serve others…this is a great way to feel better; do something nice for someone, help someone, and even just something as simple as saying something nice to someone

  2. Take action-it is true, you can always act your way into feeling better

  3. Recognize it is temporary

  4. Take the right supplements to nourish my body and brain

Funny thing is, that since I have been taking these steps, I now have only a few days per month when I am emotionally low, and these are overcome quickly in the day. Try any or all of the above and you will see a difference.

I first wrote this in 2014. Now six years later, the only thing that has changed is that I have added a few more self-management tools to my daily tool chest. I provide many more insights in my new book “3 Circles Living.”

Sometime soon, I will do a post on the ultimate morning routine, but in the meantime, If you add these ten to your day, you will definitely notice a difference relatively quickly.

Was this helpful for you? Please let me know in the comments below and feel free to share with others.

Many Blessings,

Todd
