Life is Short and Uncertain. DUH.

And by the way, in case you aren’t familiar with author Jim Collin’s work, BHAG stands for “Big Hairy Audacious Goal.”

So how come not everyone goes after what they really want and what is truly on their heart? Negative conditioning. Conformity thinking. Group Think. Low self-esteem. There are lots of possibilities. You can fill in your own.

The truth is that you can make a very long list of reasons why something you want to accomplish won’t work-out. And all of them WILL be true if you choose to accept them, because you won’t take the step to do it and subsequently will assure it will never happen.

However…you only need ONE reason why it CAN work out. Accomplishing something of meaning is a choice.

Not Everyone Wants to Hear This, But it’s The Truth Nevertheless.

Here is how I know. I am a living breathing example. I had all the things I mentioned above and still deal with one of them consistently. Yet, I live in a way I never ever could have believed possible as a young person…not because I purposed to live this way, but because I purposed to do something beyond me…bigger than me, and the result is what it is. Years ago…about 12 or so, I made a point of trying to positively affect one million people. No real way to track, no real plan, just as an over-arching reason to exist. That has gotten a bit more crystalized over the years, and now it is not related to a specific number…just an over-arching purpose (to help as many people as I possibly can to life their best life, become their best self, to make their highest contribution for the betterment of all)…and I can tell you that it is the reason I work and never stop striving, regardless of how I feel or what is achieved.

I know, without doubt, and I talk about this in the 3 Circles Living book, that if something is truly in your heart to do, then you have the capacity to do it. You may not have the ability yet, or the skills, or knowledge, or resources…but you can figure it out because it is congruent with who you are and what you are here to do and contribute.

Here are four key, simple, things that will take you to where you want to go if you keep them in mind:

  1. You CAN- If it’s in your heart to do, you can do it. You might not know exactly how yet, you may lack the skills and resources at the moment. But those are temporary issues for the person who believes they can.

  2. Don’t Listen– Anything of substance that you tackle will bring you criticism. Just remember this… 70% of the population is doing work they do not enjoy and 78% of the population is living pay-check to pay-check. These two percentages don’t always overlap. In my estimation, about 95% of the people around you are NOT remotely qualified to have an opinion on your decisions based on the proof of their choices. Do not give them credit they have not earned.

  3. Don’t Stop-This one is pretty simple. Half the battle for success is showing up…and the second half is never stopping. Regardless of how hard it gets, commit to yourself and the people you love, that you will keep going.

  4. The Right Order of Priorities-Regardless of how hungry you are to succeed, or how intense you are to work…you have to put your self-care first, and your relationship care second, and then your means of earning a living. Your pursuit comes after these unless you are in the position where earning a living and your pursuit are the same thing. This is “3 Circles Living” and is the path to an awesome life that is successful in the areas that matter most and completely supports your heart pursuit coming to fruition. Read the book and follow what’s in there!
