Life is Too Short to Live Someone Elses…
When I was a much younger man…like thirty plus years younger, I really struggled with “people pleasing.”
At least that’s what I call it, maybe there’s a better term or concept. All I know is that my low self-worth, lack of confidence, and non-confrontational way of interacting with the world, had me mostly being agreeable with everyone, because I guess it was important to me that someone like me.
I’m also highly sensitive, which I’m sure didn’t help.
Anyway, whatever you call it, I’m guessing you have had some of that in your life too, so perhaps you can relate.
In the late 1980s I had a situation which led to blowing this issue completely out of my existence. Not immediately, but within a few years. I had reached a point where my life had gotten so bad from cowering and not going after things, that I drew a line in the sand, and decided that I would go for what I wanted in life and take the blow-back from others.
Two things happened…one, I got a lot of blow-back. And two, it led to an amazing life…which over time, completely shut the mouths of anyone who was doing the blow-backing!
Here’s the short lesson, and then I’ll let the insights from the video do the rest (and I highly encourage you to watch).
Other people’s approval is not needed for you to pursue the things you want to pursue and to create the life that you truly want.
In fact, if you need other’s approval, you can kiss your own dreams good-bye, because you are not going to get them if your dreams are worth having.
Also, and this is important, other people’s approval cannot possibly be relevant anyway. They are looking at you through their limited lens. A lens that is limited by their lack of knowledge, lack of experience, and lack of true insight into you. Their input is useless unless they are encouragers or have climbed the mountain themselves, and 99% of the people you know don’t qualify in either way.
The bottom line is that you can have other’s approval, or you can have an awesome life accomplishing what’s on your heart and living the way you want. You pick.
Okay, enough said. Check out the video. It’s got some good stuff in it.
